Second Act: A division or unit in a play following the first act.  In dramatic works there can be as little as one or over 5.

However, in life there is a different meaning linked to this combination of words: according to yourdictionary.com - Noun. (plural second acts) Something a person devotes their life to later in life, after retiring or quitting their original occupation.

A long time friend and fantastic musician/composer has just released her second collection of songs entitled Second Act (Lisa Craze - look her up on itunes).  Lisa recently turned her life upside down to become a performing composer.  This was a really scary thing to do - sell her house, change careers, reinvent herself - or rather, free herself and live her dream.  To take chances and embrace her passion.  I have a great deal of respect and awe of what she has accomplished in her second act.

Starting on a second act can be scary and chaotic and unnerving and full of twists and turns.  You may find out things about yourself that challenge the very concept of who you are.  It's difficult to jump off that comfortable tree branch...the ground is an awful long way down, and there's no guarantee that your wings will hold you.  There are sudden updrafts and downdrafts and whirlwinds and lots of branches in your way.  This is how it feels to try to take your mission, your dream, and bring it to life.  If it were up to me, I'd still be in that scratchy nest trying to make it work.  God has a way of pushing you out when it's time to test your wings.  For some of us it comes later in life, as a second (or third) act.  But eventually, if you're paying attention, you'll get the message that it's time to leave the nest and learn to fly.

Have you ever watched a baby bird learn to fly? Go ahead - google it.  From robins and chickadees to eagles and hummingbirds.  Don't miss the owl babies (adorable) or the ducklings jumping after their Momma and landing on the forest floor.  Pretty amazing.  That's how I'm feeling right now as we start the second act from Mayfield Youth Theatre to Alphabet Theatre.  It took some pushing, but we are out at the end of that trembling, impossibly small branch, and we're ready to take that leap.  We trust that God is the wind beneath our wings and we're ready to see where that wind takes us.

Come fly with us!
